I have tried three barcode scanners so far, and I think this is the best. It is really fast, especially if you use the built-in light, which makes scanning in low light completely trouble-free.
Built-in light for low light scanning, even in the dark (can be disabled)
Wicked fast scanning performance when using automatic light
Good job scanning codes that are close to other codes (see pic)
Scans QR codes as easily as normal barcodes
Red scanning line can be disabled
Need a screwdriver or something skinny to press disconnect clip to remove USB cable (not likely done often)
When scanning light disabled, not great low light performance
Red scanning line is thicker than most other barcode scanners, it's not a thin/fine line
That scanning light threw me off at first. I wasn't expecting it and thought it was kind of lame. Then I started using it in very low light and at bad angles and realized how nice it actually was to aid in scanning in non-optimal conditions.
If you don't want the distraction of a flash of light every time you scan, you can disable the light, but you had better have good lighting conditions while scanning.
If you want a cheaper scanner with good low light performance and don't need QR code capabilities, this other Esky model is a good cheap choice.
