Out of 7 cameras I tested this had the best low light sensitivity. The image quality is good. The housing is sturdy but the tiny screws don't hold it together very well. I have installed 3 of these cameras so far and none of them have had a gasket or o-ring in the groove between the housing halves. One of them fell apart after being on the car for a couple of hours which led to checking the others. If you seal it and fix the screws it is easily a 5 star camera.
Two additional items. There is a voltage regulator in the moulded plastic in line with the cable. And this camera adds parking lines. I wish I could turn them off. Great camera for the price.
Well bought a cheaper one to begin with and of course it got water logged so after all the good reviews I tried this one works great clear view and no water !
Just wish it had a lisence bracket!
I like the 170° angle, it works great for backing up but not good for rear view mirror. May get another camera for mount inside of car to act as rvm.
First off, when you pick up the camera you realize it has some weight to it. the metal housing is definitely beefy. My stereo required a connection to a reverse light or reverse switch which was quite difficult to find(even with the factory service manual and wiring diagrams) I ended up running another wire all the way back to the reverse light. (wire not included). I noticed that some of the other cameras for sale on amazon came with a secondary power wire attached to the video cable for this very reason. All in all. Daytime quality is 5/5 and nighttime quality is 2/5 it gets really noisy in the dark.
This is a great little camera for the price. The two big reasons why I give it only a 4 star review are as such:
#1. It's kinda bulky. Even when tucked up under the tag light housing of a Ford Expedition it sticks out and is hard to miss.
#2. The image quality is great and you do have a wide field of view, but it is NOT 170* as advertised. It is only 135* as stated with the spec sheet that came with the camera. It's still wide enough to pick up items 2 feet away from the rear bumper off to the side of the vehicle where your door mirror will see it.
Overall I'm happy with it. It provides me a pretty decent video feed of what's behind me and there was JUST enough cable to reach the head unit in my Ford Expedition. If I had an Excursion I would have had to add an RCA extension
Lost one Star for not being waterproof in anyway, come on its a outside camera that mounts on a vehicle,
Great sharp image during day, Nice camera, reversed image, wide view but not real fish eyeish looking, color image,
Not waterproof or even resistant.
I opened up case, hot glued inside then real quick screwed back together, silicon between lens and case, now it's waterproof.
Green warning, and red stop grid lines, can't turn them off, but this is for backing up, not a deal killer for me.
Hook to reverse wire for power, might last longer.
Night time: Camera has lines and not real clear, but still does the job, has no infrared, but reverse lights make this usable at night.
Pioneer Avic stereo, motorhome, used 22 feet of r6 cable wires with RCA connects and it works great
For the price it's worth it.
Hope it lasts
This camera works well. Very clear .I could due without the distance lines but other then that it works fine.
Was sceptical about this item when reading thru past review but am very happy and this is a good camera. Very bright even in low light condition.
This camera is fantastic. Great res, you can see blades of grass and individual pebbles in the concrete. Fits anywhere; I installed by screwing under one of the license plate screws. Get some clear silicone to cover the seams and make it water-proof.
Camera works great. The image is clear HD with a 170º angle. After a few shower storms and drive through car washes I can confidently say, it's water proof. Great products, Thinking of buying a second one for my wife's car.
