Just installed this camera on my pickup and it works great. Just some advice on the install:
The video cable is very flimsy, I actually broke the one provided during the install by pulling it through my trucks firewall. You may want to purchase a Monster Cable, they are really cheap but very durable - that's what I did.
Also, if you want the camera to switch automatically when you place your vehicle in reverse you are going to need to buy another wire. I went to Ace Hardware and picked up about 20 foot of 16 gauge wire and ran that up to the purple reverse trigger on the back of the head unit from the positive wire on the reverse light. I also picked up some Loom Tube to protect the wires from the elements.
Other than that, the install is simple. Red wire goes to the colored wire on your reverse light. Black wire goes to the black wire (ground) on your reverse light. For it to switch automatically, just connect the wire you bought from ace to the same colored wire the red one connected to. Then, simply plug the yellow video cable into your "rear camera in" or "R.C.IN" port on the back of your head unit.
Camera quality is really good, even at night.
I installed this puppy over the weekend. Easy install and works like a charm. Now I can backup my van and see the rear. Makes backup the van much easier.
Update:
The camera stopped working- exactly one-year to the date from when I purchased it.
I reached out to the Manufacturer but to no avail.
However, the SELLER reached out to me (based on my updated review) and honored the Manufacturer's Warranty and sent out a replacement unit.
The seller went above and beyond their call of duty since the 1-yr warranty is really from the Manufacturer and not them.
So credit must be given where it is deserved and I will definitely choose to buy from this seller over others.
Thank you for great customer service!
Revised review.
Ordered it for a travel trailer.... well, today, May 20th, 2018 is exactly one year after I installed it- pulled the trailer out of storage and camera is not working. So somewhere between Dec. 2017 and May 20th it went out.
Question is.... will the seller honor my 12-month replacement warranty and send out a new unit?
What say you seller?!
Great little camera... Installed it on a 30' trailer.
Took off 1-star because the pic is not super sharp.... but I'm over 50' from the back of the trailer to the screen.... probably should've purchased one with a booster.
Wide lens works very good. Put this on my 25' toyhauler and i can see both corners. (I set mine up for wifi and viewing it with iPhone.)
It's not 1080 or HD.. all I need is to see if I'm about hit something while backing up. So, this is enough.
(I have tested out the night view yet..)
The camera is surprisingly well built. The casing is very heavy and appears to be made out of metal. Installation was very easy, even though I didn't bother to read instructions. It's that simple. I took the screws out of the case in order to waterproof with silicone. But I found that most of the electronics were potted in weatherprofing material anyway. I added a bead around the seam of the case and where the wire leads into it anyway. Initially, I installed it upside down because the way I had it seemed right. But it's a very easy fix if you do so. I originally had it mounted above my license plate and the guidelines were too narrow for my car. (2009 Pontiac Vibe, a compact car.) I moved the camera to the underside of my spoiler and now they are just a little bit wide, which is a good safeguard. In order to find the best spot, get yourself some masking tape to temporarily attach the camera and something long and narrow like a broomstick to place along the edge of your car so you can find a position where the lines fit closely to the width of your car. Resolution is not amazing, but it's adequate. For the price, I really can't complain. Be advised, the image appears in reverse so that it will look like you're looking in a rearview mirror, so using as a dash cam is probably not ideal. But still, excellent value for the money.
Works like a charm. Installed in my 2007 Chevy Tahoe to my Kenwood DDX574BH Double Din deck. Absolutely look it. Resolution very good considering the price. Easy to install.
Amazing video quality. I could tell this would be something good...just because of the mass of the unit. I'd give it a full 5 stars if their support team would get back to me...or if there was a simple way to use it as a front camera. I drive a very low sports car, and it's tough to park. I use NavTool to mirror my phone and to add a front camera. The first camera I installed had "OK" video quality, but this is even better than the factory rear camera. I ordered it "hoping" there would be a simple way to reverse the image for front use (as was the case with my prior camera) and for my purpose, it doesn't make a huge deal. I need to be able to judge proximity to curbs and such, and this does the job well regardless of picture orientation. I've attached a photo of the install, as well as the front and factory rear view camera. Notice the amount of detail over the factory camera.
Excellent
Very clear video. Great color rendering, even in nighttime low light conditions. Easy to install. Small size makes it unobtrusive. My only complaint is that the field of view is not even close to their claim of 170 degrees. It is actually about 90 degrees vertically and horizontally.
Unfortunately, none of the cameras I have tried give anywhere close to the field of view they claim, but for only $20 I'll put up with this little issue.
Camera works well. Had trouble installing in 2013 Hyundai Sonata as it could not be mounted inside the bezel as the original. Ended up mounting outside so it could be aimed properly. Lines on screen are a bit irritating as the Sonata already has lines that follow the steering.
