I live in an area prone to lose power. We get hurricanes and snow storms that can knock our power out for days, and sometimes weeks. Knowing what's going on is really important. So far this Weather Radio has been great!
SOUND QUALITY/RECEPTION
While there are several other features on this radio, by far the most important to me was getting good reception. When the antenna was up I could get really good reception on every local station I tried and WB. The speaker isn't the highest quality, but I'm not buying this to listen to music. It doesn't get super loud, but plenty loud for everyone to hear.
Overall I was impressed in this area, great reception and good enough sound quality.
BATTERY/HAND CRANK/PHONE CHARGE
You can charge this device via USB or hand crank. There's also solar panel, but I believe that is only for the cell phone charging (could be wrong). The hand crank was easy to do and well designed. I was surprised how long a few cranks kept the radio playing for. It comes with a USB charging cable, but you will need a block to be able to plug it into the wall.
I charged up the cell phone battery and it does work well. It's not the biggest, only 1000mAh. It's a nice backup to have in emergencies, but I wouldn't rely on this as your only source of charging. It's also a really nice feature is that you can recharge the battery with the solar panel on the top.
FLASHLIGHT
Like the cell phone charger, this is a nice feature but I wouldn't rely on it. It's not the brightest and I doubt it would last long. It's always good to have a backup, but I would not rely on this flashlight.
QUALITY
It is a plastic device, but it does feel well made. No loose parts, seems to be built solid. I will update as the months go by if this thing breaks.
OVERALL
For the price I'm very happy with this device. There certainly are better WB Radios out there, but you'll have to pay more for them. This one is built solid, gets clear channels, and has a few extras thrown in. Would definitely recommend!
