Update 8/9/18 Camera stopped working at 1 yr old but seller sent me a new one free . I recieved it with in the week. First one never fogged.
July 2017-Decent picture better than wife's factory mercedes. Can't remove guidelines. Came with faulty video wire , thought camera was bad but tried new cable because a pro installer suggested. 3 stars because can't return and came with bad wire also image is 480 per best
Up date, I upgraded to 4 stars, the night vision works well when camera is mounted in front of licence plate light and customer service contacted me about previous review even though I never tried to contact them. They offered to send me a new one but I already installed a new one
Installed this in a 2013 Honda Fit. Good quality picture with a pioneer receiver. Easy adjustment after install to get the perfect balance of ground and perimeter
Great backup camera, super wide viewing angle, perfect for backup up super close.
Bought it to replace the camera that came with my stereo head unit, that camera was horrible, it might as well have been a telescope, the zoom was unusable for backup parking on my old camera.
The line overlays for backing up are super helpful. Resolution is good, not HD by any means, but perfectly acceptable.
The infrared lights cause a glare issue at night with the camera. I guess they're placed too close to the camera lens. Minus 1 star because of that, but it's still useable at night.
Worked great for about 10days beautiful clear view. So sad it started messing up. I would definitely get another. My vehicle is a Kia Sportage and had enough wiring. I had it professionally installed not something any DIY can do.
Nice , we'll built sturdy unit. At a more than affordable price !
The camera quality is good, the angle of the lense seems to be accurate to it's description, and it is very easy to install, and was compatible with wiring from a previous camera that I was replacing with this one. But I had to take a star off because of the odd choice of installing LEDs instead of infrared. As in many cases such small LEDs will be virtually useless.
It works as expected and a minor issue it that it does not allow to adjust facing down toward the road but allow for facing up. If I flip it the image is reversed. So I have to put two small pieces of item under its upper edge to make the camera point to the road.
Very good camera as described
I installed this on a Nissan Titan crew cab and I've used it with two stereo head units, a Power Acoustic and later a Pioneer. It worked pretty well with both of them. The video cable was just long enough work with my Nissan, but only just!
There are two things I don't care for with this camera...one, it isn't very good at night in total darkness. The night vision claim is sorta misleading...it's got two white LEDs that are supposed to supplement your car's backup lights, and that's 'night vision'. But in reality, it seems the two LEDs sort of wash out the image if you're in reverse somewhere where it's really dark. For example...if I'm backing out of a parking space at the local convenience store, which has a bright parking lot, it looks great! Ditto if I'm backing up into my garage, because the garage lights come on when the door opens. But when I'm out at the lake fishing, and I put it in reverse in total darkness, I mostly see glare from the two LEDs! I think it would actually be better without the LEDs (and relying on my truck's backup lights), and I've thought about taping over them to see if that's the case, but I haven't done it yet.
The second thing isn't really the fault of the camera...it's a product of the ultra-wide field of view. When I'm backing up, the camera gives the impression that the objects behind me are a lot farther away than they really are! So, when I'm backing up to a space with a car behind me, the camera has me thinking I've got 5 or 6 feet of space, when in reality I've got about half that. Again, that's not because the camera isn't working right! It's just a difference from what I'm used to. I have backup cameras on my other vehicles (an Acura and a Lexus), and they both have narrower fields of view...like 135 degrees or so...and I think I get a better idea of the real distance between my car and the objects behind me with those cameras. Could I get used to it? Yes, probably...but I will probably try a camera with a narrower FOV to more closely match what I'm used to. Having said that, the 180 FOV does what is intended...it lets you see a lot wider...which is handy when you're backing out in a crowded parking lot...you can see people walking, or cars approaching, a little sooner.
If someone asked me if I'd recommend this camera, I'd tell them that yes, for the price, I think it's a decent value, even with the LED issue. But if you have another car with a RV camera, you might consider trying to find a camera with a similar FOV for the sake of consistency.
Good camera
