A great gift for the hard to buy for guys. I also gave one to myself . Good to have on hand in case of a power failure
Excellent flashlight/radio for emergency use. Just leave it close to a lamp and it will keep charged for when you need it.
We purchased three of these and they all seem to work fine. We live in an area where the power goes out frequently, so we have other similar hand cranked radios, flashlights and chargers. We live near the foothills and when there is a storm we get more wind than most of the surrounding areas which causes trees and branches to knock down power lines or cause the wires to short out. Generally, our area is first to go out and last to come back on line.
The units feel solid, like they are not just little hollow plastic shells. The radio sounds surprisingly good for a little tiny radio. The light puts out a useful amount of light. The crank will get it going if its internal battery is dead. The outgoing charging port will get your cell phone back on line. The solar cell will keep it charged up without having to plug it into a USB charger. That is quite a bit of functionality for the price that these typically are selling for on Amazon.
Because of our unreliable power situation we of course have an emergency generator. But to use it we have to hook it up to our system and then start it up. When the power is out for days at a time we have to periodically shut the generator down for maintenance tasks. So we often need flashlights and sometimes the radio gives us useful information and entertainment as well. It is also a comfort to know that if our cell phones go dead that these can charge them up enough to get them working again at least temporarily.
Many of the people who buy these do not seem to understand the real practical reasons for having this type of device. And they seem to have unrealistic expectations about how they think these devices should function. If he device was sitting in your car and its internal battery was dead and you ran off the road and were stuck under six feet of snow and you wanted to charge your cell phone... it could probably be done with some effort. But that is not a very likely scenario and not the most likely way that this device will actually be used. So personally I would not evaluate this unit based on that type of purpose.
