Hardest thing is running wire to dash and holes don't line up with plate i had to drill hole and make slot bigger. camera works fine
I received this Rear View Backup Camera in return for honest feedback, and I have to say that I really like this camera. I can't say anything negative about it, but here are the positives so far:
The supplied video cable was just long enough to install in my dodge ram 1500 6.5 ft bed extended cab truck.
To install you have to hook up to the reverse light wiring, and if your radio supports reverse cameras you also have to run 12 volt to that wire as well, normally pink, to make the radio switch to the camera.
I grounded the camera to the frame underneath.
To summarize installation, video wire goes from camera to radio
Power wire, red goes to reverse light, black to ground
(optional wire, not included) runs from radio to reverse signal in fuse box, or like I had to, run it with video cable down to reverse light.
The features on the camera are nice too. The manual is very clear, you probably will have to reverse the image, and to do that there's a small button near the camera that you will have to hit twice (press, wait 1/4 second, press.) If you want the lines to go all the way across, you have to hit the button 4 times (press, wait 1/4 second, press, wait 1/4 second, press, wait 1/4 second, press. 5 times makes the lines wider/narrower, 6 times makes the lines go higher or lower to adjust your warning indicators. those adjustments work better with 2 people, but I did it by myself.
I used some stainless steel screws to mount the camera (not included) as my license plate didn't mount with upper screws originally. I would definitely recommend this product, and it even worked really well at night, I could see everything. It is wide angle, so those pictures will show you the view is pretty wide.
PROS:
I love the fact that it has adjustable grid lines so u can move them around to whatever angle you so desire.
-the camera is sturdily built and very durable and weather resistant.i have lived through a snow storm without any damage, only occasional cleaning.
-installation is very easy.
CONS:
-the LEDs at nights blurrs the vision/view.i have had to put a tape over mine just to get a clear view.
-the brackets covers the license plate registration sticker.hope i do not get in trouble with the law.
-also the holes do not line up in some cars.my wife had to drill holes to fit with the slots.
-it would have been nice if it came with a monitor even for an increased price.
-it claims to have a field of view of 180 degrees.this is not true-its approximately 150-160 degrees which is still not bad.
Love it. Great picture and shows more area then my last one.
great!
Works as advertised. I am very happy with it. As long as you can Google a picture of where to wire in power for your select vehicle you will have no issues.
So far, so good. Installed on 2002 Excursion. Had it installed at a shop so I'm not sure if cable included was long enough or if they needed more. Visibility is great, though.. Even in total darkness the picture looks like daytime. As far as durability and water/weather proof, only time will tell.
this is a great product.
The small size (form factor) of this camera unit does not interfere with the trunk knob in my car (I read reviews of some others that do). Does its job - the video looks great during the day. Visibility is decent at night.
The backup camera has a very bright light for great view while backing up at night. It provides a very high quality image ai all lighting conditions. I would definitely recommend it to a friend.
